Monday’s class was supposed to be dedicated to finishing labs from the week before. Dustin and Lucas had finished their work and spent class discussing X-Men instead.
“Why is El taking all the notes?” Dustin interrupted them.
“Yeah aren’t you supposed to back off?” Lucas added. Eleven glared at Mike who reluctantly handed over the beaker without a word. But before the bell rang, things were back to “normal”.
In the hallway, Eleven stormed off, and Mike came out of the classroom, still shoving his books into his backpack.
“Wait up!” He quickened his pace, his long lanky strides almost doubling her shorter ones. Eleven had to repeat the words “not at school” over and over in her head — one of the rules she had agreed with Hopper over regarding her powers. But Mike was testing her resolve. “Look I’m sorry about chem but I don’t want you to have a slip up or — ”
“I have to learn myself, Mike. Ms. Hemming said.” Eleven didn’t stop walking.
“She doesn’t know about — ”
“They’re under control.” She grumbled back.
“You don’t KNOW that!” He swung in front of her and slammed his hand against a locker, stopping her from continuing forward.
“Hey!” A random kid nearby objected to the noise.
“Sorry.” Eleven apologized and then ducked around Mike to continue on her way.
